The Russian resolution on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was rejected by the Security Council

A resolution was presented by Russia to the UN Security Council condemning the escalating violence in the Middle East. However, the proposal was not passed in the voting.

Four countries voted in favor of Russia's proposal in the Security Council vote on Monday. On the other hand, four countries, including the United States, voted against the proposal. Another six countries abstained from voting.

Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said, "We have faced failure." However, this proposal has prompted the Security Council to take action on the Middle East situation.

The UK voted against the Russian proposal. British ambassador to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, said, "The proposals raised by Russia were not consulted on all sides." We cannot support a resolution that fails to condemn the terrorist attacks by Hamas.

About the overall situation, Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour said, "12 people are dying every hour in the besieged Gaza Strip. It is the moral responsibility of the Security Council to resist Israel there. Please don't convey the message that Palestinian lives are worthless. Don't even say that Israel is not responsible for dropping bombs on our heads.'

Although the Russian proposal was rejected, another proposal has been raised by Brazil. The proposal is expected to be voted on Tuesday evening.

The Palestinian organization Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. In response, Israel launched a counterattack on the same day. Since then, continuous airstrikes have been carried out in Gaza. More than four thousand people died on both sides. An extreme humanitarian crisis has emerged in the besieged Gaza. In this situation, US President Joe Biden is going to visit Israel tomorrow, Wednesday (October 18).
