Putin in China to meet 'dear friend' Xi

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited China. He arrived in China on Tuesday morning. During the visit, Putin will meet his "dear friend" Chinese President Xi Jinping.

China has organized a conference in Beijing to mark the tenth anniversary of China's landmark Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project. Putin is one of the most important invited guests of this two-day conference starting today.

The conference is taking place at a time when the bloody conflict between Palestine and Israel is going on in the Middle East. On the other hand, the Russia-Ukraine war is going on in Europe. Its shadow is expected to fall on the conference.

Representatives of 130 countries will participate in this conference organized by China. By participating in the conference, Putin and C. will strengthen their relationship.

In February 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war began. Because of this war, the West took the initiative to isolate Russia. They imposed sanctions on Russia. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Putin. This is Putin's first visit to a global power since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The plane carrying Putin landed in China shortly before 9:30 am today. An AFP journalist saw the plane land.

The Kremlin said that Russian President Putin will hold an official meeting with Chinese President Xi on Wednesday on the sidelines of the BRI conference.

International and regional issues will be of particular importance in the meeting between the two leaders, the Kremlin said. Beyond that, the Kremlin did not provide any details.

Russia has strong relations with China. Putin aims to strengthen this relationship.

Experts are expecting some big surprises during the visit of the Russian leader to China. They see the upcoming Putin-Si meeting as a symbol of Beijing's support for Moscow.
