In a rare address to the nation from the White House, US President Joe Biden tried to draw a link between Hamas's activities in Israel and Russia's activities in Ukraine. He says Hamas and Putin represent different threats, they are identical. They both want to wipe out neighboring democracies.
Explaining US intervention in both places, Biden said American leadership brings the world together.
Biden will ask Congress for $100 billion in new funding. This includes $60 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel. This will include $10 billion for humanitarian aid, $14 billion for border security and $7 billion for the Indo-Pacific region.
If we can't stop Putin's 'hunger' for power and control in Ukraine, he won't be limited to Ukraine, Biden said. If we stand back and let Putin erase Ukraine's independence, aggressors around the world will be encouraged to do the same. The risk of conflict and chaos could spread to other parts of the world—the Indo-Pacific, especially the Middle East.
